چکیده
Shu Fang, Fei-Jann Lin and Hwei-yu Chang (1998) Chromosomal inversion polymorphism in natural populations of Drosophila ruberrima. Zoological Studies 37(4): 309-321. The standard map of the giant polytene chromosome of Drosophila ruberrima, one of the members of the immigrans species subgroup of the immigrans species group, is constructed according to the primitive gene arrangement or standard sequence (8T) for each chromosome. A pure line with homozygous chromosomes was established. Chromosomal inversions can be identified easily by crossing a male fly with the pure line and checking the F1 with the aid of this standard map. Inversion polymorphism, both kinds and frequencies, of this species is high. The Taiwan population is at Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, but the Yunnan population shows an excess of homozygotes which is probably affected by natural selection. The geographic pattern of chromosomal inversion polymorphism in natural populations reveals that the marginal island population, Taiwan, is less variable than the central mainland population, Yunnan, mainland China. Little genetic differentiation among subpopulations within Taiwan indicates that extensive gene flow exists. In contrast, moderate genetic differentiation was observed between the Taiwan and Yunnan populations.

Inversion Polymorphism in Populations of Drosophila Subobscura from Urban and Non-urban Environments
Populations of Drosophila subobscura from the urban area of Belgrade and from the locality, Deliblato, which is not under strong anthropogenic influence, were studied with the aim to characterize and compare their genetic structure by examining chromosomal inversion polymorphism. Additional analysis and comparison of this type of polymorphism with several other populations from different habita...
متن کاملAdaptive Role of Inversion Polymorphism of Drosophila subobscura in Lead Stressed Environment
Local adaptation to environmental stress at different levels of genetic polymorphism in various plants and animals has been documented through evolution of heavy metal tolerance. We used samples of Drosophila subobscura populations from two differently polluted environments to analyze the change of chromosomal inversion polymorphism as genetic marker during laboratory exposure to lead. Exposure...

A comparative study of genic allozyme and chromosomal polymorphisms in four continental (South American) and six oceanic island (West Indies) populations of Drosophila willistoni has been made. The pattern of genic polymorphism is closely similar in all populations. Although regional and local differences in gene frequencies are found, generally the same alleles occur at high, intermediate, and...

HE population geneticist is essentially interested in the variation of gene freTquencies in natural populations. Within chromosomal inversions blocks of genes are contained and in many species of Drosophila due to the presence of easily analysable giant chromosomes, the behavior of these blocks of genes can be easily studied in natural populations. Thus, of recent years chromosomal inversion po...
متن کاملChromosomal polymorphism in irradiated natural populations of Chironomus.
CHROMOSOMAL polymorphism occurs in many species of Drosophila and Chironomus. Evidence has been accumulated by BEARDMORE, DOBZHANSKY and PAVLOVSKY ( 1960), BATTAGLIA and SMITH (1962), and others that chromosomal polymorphic populations are superior in fitness to monomorphic populations. In most cases it is accepted that populations remain chromosomally polymorphic because the heterokaryotypes a...
